Who we are and what we offer
We are a family run farm and 4 bed carbon neutral holiday cottage just on the edge of beautiful Bronte moorland here near Haworth, West Yorkshire, UK. Stones Cottage Farm was built in 1878 and has previously been a farm keeping dairy, sheep for meat and wool, a battery farm, then a free range farm and hatchery. Historic occupations of the residents here have ranged from farming, to quarrying and stone work, as well as textiles and wool production.
In terms of the holiday cottage, it is attached to our farm. It has 2 bedrooms and sleeps 4, (but we also have travel cot or zed bed too). The Gallery has loads of photos of the cottage and grounds for you to look at. We specialise in families – especially those with babies or toddlers, but also teenagers unlikely to lift their heads from their phones!
The area in the media : The whole area is associated with the famous Bronte sisters and the Parsonage Museum, and the main Haworth cobbled street is just up the road. We are also known for many many TV and film productions, including recent ones such as Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax and other Sally Wainwright productions. Peaky Blinders, To Walk Invisible, Emily, Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, Rita, Sue and Bob too have also been filmed here, and so many others!!! It is not uncommon to bump into film crew or actors here.
Transport and Connectivity : As wild and open as the spaces are here, resulting in practically no air pollution at all, and as private and quiet as we are, we are amazingly connected to the transport networks – public buses run past the farm and take you to Hebden Bridge on one side, or Keighley via Haworth to the other. From there you can get trains to Leeds, Bradford, Skipton, Manchester and beyond. We are around 45 minutes from Leeds/Bradford airport, and similar to Manchester airport. We also have the steam railway down the road too which can take you between Oxenhope and Haworth, through to Oakworth (where the Railway Children was filmed) and into Keighley.
The site is based at the top of the ‘Stones’, a rocky outcrop of stone that spans along the top of Oxenhope and leads up to the moorland at one end, and down to the village at the other. There is a network of walking, cycling and riding pathways from this area. We also have the privilege of some amazing protected wildlife here such as curlews and the environment supports migrating animals too.
